Bruce Bartlett, a conservative historian formerly affiliated with the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations, recently authored a paper where he criticized Fox News. He argues that the station makes its viewers less educated and negatively affected voter turnout for Mitt Romney during the 2012 presidential election. He also elaborates on why he used the term "self-brainwashing" in his paper to describe the station's viewers. "I think many conservatives live in a bubble," he told Brian Stelter, host on CNN's Reliable Sources. "They watch only Fox News...they listen only to conservative talk radio...they look at only conservative websites...so they are completely in a universe in which they are hearing the same exact ideas, the same arguments, the same limited amount of data repeated over, over, and over again and that's brainwashing," he added.
